Make your own massive monster head and parade through your town centre, warding off evil spirits as you see fit. This beastly behemoth will become the talk of the town in no time, and I’ll let you in on a little secret: this is one of Steve’s favourite designs to date. Like our crab claws, this mask is intended to be made mostly from corrugated cardboard rather than thin card, so collect up your old packaging, raid the recycling bin and go big-headed this Halloween. The head isn't difficult to make but is huge, so I estimate it’ll take a leisurely 8 hours to create. It’s nice to build it in sections over a couple of days.

Amazing Monster Mask!

These cardboard masks are fantastic! I made this one and the Monster Mask II, and will be making the other 2 monster masks for the full set. The construction was straightforward, and no major problems encountered. I've made several Wintercroft masks, but using thick corrugated cardboard was just a bit different. Faster actually, considering the assembly was hot glue instead of my usual 2-sided tape. Scoring the fold lines was easy once I figured out that using 2 sizes of drywall putty knives worked out very well to squish the cardboard along the fold lines. Surprisingly, the hardest part was the internal head support. For whatever reason, the instructions weren't terribly clear to me. I just would have worded it differently and ordered some of the parts differently. The internal support for Monster Mask II was actually easier than this one. Overall.... amazing super fantastic masks! I love these oversized corrugated cardboard ones! Release more monsters!!!!! Keep up the great work Wintercroft!

Satisfying project

The template is elegant and clever. . The instructions are sufficient. I took about 13 hours plus more time to put together a "dress" to wear with the mask. Here are some things to think about if you take this on: - Don't make the eyes first if this is your first mask; the eyes are difficult and not typical off the rest of the mast. - The hair really is heavy. I might try a different material. I solved the problem in this go-round by putting weights in the nose. - The hanging jaw leaves the wearer's chin and neck visible. I solved this problem by adding teeth and fixing the jaw in a more closed position. - The internal structure is excellent for making the mask stable and robust. It's tricky to glue in place; patience is the best tool. - I haven't figured out a way to improve the ability to see out of the mask. I'm interested in hearing from others. - The suggestion for using a glue gun is spot on! Thanks so much for making these templates available! I'm so pleased with the result.

Worst of all the masks

The instructions are ambiguous at best, I have made lots of the wintercroft masks and this is just not well explained, I have already had to reprint multiple times and still can't work out what the instructions are getting at. :(

Wintercroft

Hi, and thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry you've had difficulty assembling the Monster Mask. The process is a little different from our other masks as it uses different techniques. Please let me know what you are struggling with, and I can talk you thorough the build. The best way is to send a photo of your partially built mask to info@wintercroft, and I will guide you from there. We are here to help if you have questions, so don't hesitate to reach out. Kind regards, Steve

Fun build. Quite a hit.

This was a fun build. The most complex I have done so far. The cardboard made for a very sturdy structure. Alining the eyes was a bit of a challenge but overall not too hard. This was quite the hit at Eeyore's Birthday Party in Austin TX.
