As fools of varying, limited intelligence, the Zanni represent the low-ranking amongst 16th Century Italian society. Portrayed as bumbling, loafing followers, these peasants are represented in theatre by a bird-like nose that suggests pecking for scraps as a chicken would upon the ground. Often seen carrying the Capitano’s wears, these dregs of Renaissance Italy are always searching and seldomly finding any opportunities to improve their situation.

• We designed these masks specifically to help teachers, so if you would like to use them in an educational setting, please get in touch via our contact page, so that we can let you know how to go about this. The minimum age we suggest for this set would be 13+. Due to the level of expression required for Commedia Dell’ Arte masks, they take more dexterity to assemble than many of our animal masks. For younger children, our Woodland or Jungle Animal Sets work great.

• Simply print the templates on paper, stick them to card, cut them out, match the numbers and join the tabs together. The Mask is scaled to fit an adult but you can make children's masks by scaling down the templates when you print - check our FAQ page for details. The templates come with instructions for an internal head band that can be adjusted by moving the fixing points to get a snug fit.
