Loyal servant or archetypal trickster? Arlecchino can be both in the 16th Century Italian form of drama known as Commedia Dell’ Arte. The history of what is more commonly known as Harlequin, spans back to carnival performers of the middle ages. “When Arlecchino appeared in France in the comédie Italiènne, he became known as Arlequin. In the 18th century, the character became known in England as Harlequin with his role as the lead in the harlequinade - the forerunner to pantomime.” – Cheryl Stapleton of Learning Through Theatre

We designed these masks specifically to help teachers, so if you would like to use them in an educational setting, please get in touch via our contact page, so that we can let you know how to go about this. The minimum age we suggest for this set would be 13+. Due to the level of expression required for Commedia Dell’ Arte masks, they take more dexterity to assemble than many of our animal masks. For younger children, our Woodland or Jungle Animal Sets work great.
